What I Learned from the “ChatGPT Prompt Engineering for Developers”

by:

Recently, I completed the ChatGPT Prompt Engineering for Developers course by Deeplearning.ai and OpenAI, and it was a refreshing dive into the world of AI-powered communication. As someone who enjoys learning across disciplines, this course helped me view large language models not just as tools, but as creative collaborators.

The course is built around two key principles: writing clear and specific prompts, and giving the model time to “think.” Simple in theory, yet surprisingly powerful in practice. Through hands-on examples, I learned how to structure inputs using delimiters, request structured outputs like JSON, and guide the model through complex reasoning using chain-of-thought prompting.

One of my favorite parts was experimenting with tone and style, asking the model to speak like a grandparent or format responses in HTML. These techniques don’t just improve response quality; they open the door to entirely new ways of interacting with AI.

If you’re curious about artificial intelligence or working on anything involving language models, from chatbots to creative tools, I highly recommend checking out this course. It’s short, insightful, and filled with practical knowledge to help you level up your prompting skills.
